PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-film magnetic head wherein the problem of side fringe writing by a wiring head part is suppressed, its manufacturing method, a head assembly composed of the thin-film magnetic head, and a magnetic disk device loading the thin-film magnetic head. SOLUTION: An upper magnetic pole 18 has a two-piece structure including a magnetic pile tip half 18a, and a magnetic yoke part (magnetic pole rear half) 18b which is formed so as to build up on the tip half 18a, and when seen form a magnetic disk opposite surface, the width P2W2 of a surface not in contact with the magnetic pole tip half 18a of the magnetic yoke part (magnetic rear half) 18b is larger than the width P2W1 of a surface in contact with the magnetic pole tip half 18a of the magnetic yoke part (magnetic rear half) 18b.
