PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone set improved in retrieving a telephone number. SOLUTION: Concerning each of plural opposite parties of telephone, his/her name, telephone number and a group (sorting data) to which he/she belongs are stored related with each other in a memory 122 mounted in a telephone set circuit. When retrieving a telephone number, a system control 121 reads all of the groups (sorting data) from the memory 122 and makes an input display device 101 display them. When selecting a specific group from these groups, the part 121 reads the name of the telephone opposite party belonging to the group from the memory 122 and makes the device 101 display it. A group whose name is not registered is displayed as a group whose name is not set yet.
