PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate maintenance of an apparatus by making the operation simplified for a user respectively attaching/detaching/replacing consumed part unite such as a photoreceptor, an intermediate transfer belt or the like to/from the apparatus body. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus is, provided with photoreceptor drums 4Y, 4M, 2C and 4K, and a plurality of cartridges consisting of at least, one processing means working to the photoreceptor drums and moreover the intermediate transfer belt 8 carrying the images forming on the respective photoreceptor, while the intermediate transfer belt 8 is, made possible to switch a first position attained by being held in contact with the photoreceptor drum, and the second position attained by parting from the photoreceptor drum, and moreover constituted so to make changeover of the above two of positions linked with the open/close operation of the front door 100 serving for an armor of the device main body.
