PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character string predicting device capable of efficiently retrieving a character string while reducing the number of character strings to be simultaneously displayed as much as possible. SOLUTION: For partially coincident character strings among character strings, display is omitted and performed later. In that case, concerning coincident characters, emphasized display is performed and the presence of following characters is shown by adding a special symbol. Processing is repeatedly executed and hierarchical display is performed.
