The apparatus consists of a base (3) with a foot (15) to rest on the upper resectioned end of the tibia, an upright (16) with a slot (25), anterior (5) and posterior (8) femur cutting assemblies which can slide on the support, and a feeler (7) to press against the anterior face of the femur and position the anterior cutting assembly. It also has an assembly (9) with a rod (50) which can pass through the slot in the upright and into the medullary canal of the femur, and a femoral distraction measuring instrument (21).
