<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem in a conventional image encoder and a conventional image decoder that needs increased data quantities because many images only part of which are changed are respectively stored in recording media when the same partial image is displayed on different positions of the same background image. SOLUTION: The image encoder, where a desired image is displayed by compositing the entire image and one partial image or more having an optional shape, is provided with an area shape coding means that applies compression coding to data denoting an area shape of the partial image, an image information coding means that applies compression coding to the image information of the entire image and applies compression coding to the image in inside the area of the partial image, and a storage means that stores the coded data of the area shape of the partial image and the coded data of the image information of the entire image and the partial image. The coded data have an identifier to denote whether the image information is for the rectangular entire image without the shape information or for the partial image of an optional shape with the shape information.</p> |
