A circular fluorescent lamp with the filaments in the two ends of the circular tube connected to the pins in the rotatable lamp base by pairs of conducting wires has an insulator between the wires of at least one pair. A circular fluorescent lamp (1) with: (a) a transparent circular tube (2) filled with a discharge gas containing mercury and a noble gas, (b) a coating of phosphor on the inside of the tube (2), (c) bases (10, 11) sealing each end of the tube, (d) a heating filament (6) at each end of the tube, (e) a pair of conducting wires (7, 8) in each base (10, 11), one end of each pair being connected with the filament (6) and the other end extending outside the tube and (f) a lamp base (3) fitted between the ends of the tube (2) in such a way that it can easily be rotated round the centre line of the tube and incorporating conducting pins (4) which are connected to the wires (7, 8). This lamp also has an insulator (9) between the conducting wires (7, 8) of at least one pair. An Independent claim is also included for a lighting system with at least one circular lamp as above, a choke to deliver electrical power to the lamp(s), a body for the lamps and choke and an insulator between the wires as above, arranged so as to restrict the movement of the conducting wires.
