The invention relates to an electromechanical wheel brake device (10) comprising a helical gear (16) that converts the rotational motion of an electromotor (18) to a translational motion of a brake piston (15) that forces the brake lining (12) against a brake disk (13) in the feed stroke and for disengaging the brake lining (12) in the return stroke. The inventive device is further provided with a clutch coupling (38) that functionally disengages a part (28) of the helical gear (16) from the electromotor when an admissible return stroke is exceeded, thereby preventing a mechanical failure or damage of the wheel brake device (10) in the event of such a failure mode. The electromechanical wheel brake device (10) is suitable for use in motor vehicles, for example in passenger cars.
