A glue bead detection system having a detector, preferably an electro-opt ic device, positioned adjacent an article having a detectable object for exampl e a heated glue bead thereon, a lens disposed between the article and the detector, and a light source producing visible light having a focal point directed toward the object, wherein radia nt energy from the object is focused onto the detector when the focal point of visible light is positioned on the object.
