<p>A method is disclosed to improve the scalability of Video on Demand (VoD) Systems with VRC functions using the client buffers (120, 130) in a cooperative way called Distributed Cooperatie Memory (DCM). When a user requests a movie then right before watching the movie, the client station stores a piece of the movie in its local buffer (130). Thus, if any client station needs a piece of the movie that is stored in the local buffer (120) of another client, it doesn't need to ask the VoD server (110) for another video stream, instead the server (110) only locates and selects a client which has the requested piece of movie. The selected client then either forwards the received video stream or sends the requested video contents in a burst in the case of a fast forward or rewind operation with exhibition. This mechanism is used to implement the VCR operations and can be extended to several clients.</p> |
