The connecting system for joining X-profile rails at right angles comprises a bolt (10) which fits into a bore (3a) in the central core (3) of the first profile and whose head fits into one of the longitudinal grooves in the other profile. A wedge-shaped spacer is fitted between the bolt head and the inner surface (5a) of the groove. The bolt is fitted through a slot in the spacer which allows its position to be adjusted.
