A track-switching point for carriages rolling or sliding on tracks each formed of two parallel rails 1 spaced apart by a continuous slot 2 providing passage for load-carrying suspension elements, e.g. hooks carrier by the carriages, comprises three track sections A, B, C, the median lines 3 of whose slots 2 are coplanar in a horizontal plane and converge on to a point M, and a substantially U-shaped shutter 7 pivotable about a horizontal spindle 8 between one or other of two stable positions, one in which the sections A and B are connected and the other in which the shutter is retracted to the inoperative dotted line position, Fig. 3 (not shown), to the side of the point, an abutment plate 13 welded beneath one rail 1 cooperating with the shutter in its operative position to prevent deformation thereof under thrust exerted by a carriage being switched from section A to B. The spindle 8 is mounted in lugs 10 welded to the vertical flange 11 of the rail 1 to which the plate 13 is welded. The shutter 7 has a counterweight 9. The point may comprise two shutters, one on each side, one for communication between A and B and the other for A and C. The shutters are synchronized by means of a parallelogram linkage straddling the point so that when one shutter is operative the other is inoperative. Shutter manipulation may be manual, electrical or by fluid pressure. |
