<p>A method and device according to which spikes (1) are fixed onto the rim (2) or by means of a metal crown on the outer side of the vehicle wheels, the length of the spikes (1) normally being less than the width of the tyre but greater than the width of the deflated tyre. When the vehicle moves on a slippery surface, the tyres (5) deflate rapidly through a safety valve (3) under the control of a main electronic device, while spikes (1) spur into the roadway, stopping slide and sideslip. Once the A.B.S. and/or E.T.S. system is inoperative, the well-known method of bringing the tyre to normal pressure is activated, which implicitly leads to the deactivation of spikes.</p> |
