Parking aid for braking a vehicle in front of an obstacle

To assist the vehicle stopping in front of an obstacle the brakes are operated automatically in relation to the distance between the obstacle and the vehicle. Automatic braking is influenced by the operation of the accelerator pedal. The braking graph shows the amount of braking in relation to the distance of the obstacle to the vehicle. A reduction in pressure on the accelerator pedaal reduces the distance between the vehicle and the obstacle before braking begins thus allowing the driver to actively control the vehicle's approach to an obstacle without switching the parking aid off.
