Composition (A) for treating or preventing human tumors that express the tumor antigens mucin and/or carcino-embryonal antigen (CEA), is new. Composition (A) for treating or preventing human tumors that express the tumor antigens mucin and/or carcino-embryonal antigen (CEA) comprising: (1) a plasmid containing the human mucin gene MUC1 (or its active fragments or a sequence that expresses at least three repeats of a specified sequence (1)); and/or (2) a plasmid containing the gene for human CEA (2389 base pair sequence, reproduced together with the encoded protein sequence). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) pharmaceutical packaging unit containing (A) in which the individual plasmids (and/or recombinant viruses containing the same sequences) are packaged separately or together; and (2) method for activating the immune system to combat tumors that express the specified antigens.
