A textured filament yarn, in which the filaments are entangled and interlaced, and have when the yarn is in a relaxed state, angular bends therein which point in various directions and are spaced at substantially equal distances one from another, the yarn being substantially free from projecting crunodal loops, is produced in one uninterrupted process by crimping the yarn and by-passing the crimped yarn through a gas jet to entangle the filaments. In one embodiment the yarn is drawn, stuffer-box crimped, and overfed by less than 5% into a gas vortex chamber. The rate of withdraw of yarn from the stuffer-box is controlled through an electronic circuit by the position of the exit door to keep the amount of yarn in the box constant. In a second embodiment the yarn is crimped by a pair of rollers, one roller being of oval cross-section and eccentrically mounted and the other roller being spring-pressed against the first roller, so that as the oval roller is rotated at constant angular velocity the yarn is alternately buckled and tensioned at high frequency. The yarn may be of polyamide or polyester and have a round, or tri-lobal or tri-angular cross-section.
|
