<p>1,031,201. Carton sealing apparatus. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. Oct. 1, 1964 [Jan. 6, 1964], No. 546/64. Heading B8C. Apparatus for cooling of overlying closure elements of cartons C after heat sealing, comprises a series of rollers 10 located downstream of the heater means and means to apply cooling fluid to the rollers. In one embodiment, apertures 16 of a pipe 14 direct a jet 17 of water on to each roller, except the first one 10a, so that films of water are moved into engagement with the closure elements during rolling engagement of the rollers with the carton as it moves along on conveyer CV. No water is applied to the roller 10a so as to avoid solidification of wax before the overlying elements are pressed one against the other. In a further embodiment, the rollers (except the roller first engaged) are provided with wells at the upper ends and means provided to fill the wells with water which continues to overflow down the surface of the rollers during engagement with the carton. In another embodiment, the fluid applied is compressed air directed from fine jets between the rollers (after the second roller) in a direction substantially at right angles to the surface of a closure element. The carton may be as described in Specification 854,183 and the heating means as in Specification 924,555.</p> |
