Tumor cells for studying gliomas in situ comprising cells from a tumor cell line that have been stably transfected with a gene or gene fragment encoding a fluorescent protein (FP) so that the ability to produce the FP is retained by subsequent cell generations, is new. An Independent claim is also included for a process for producing the FP-producing tumor cells, comprising: (a) introducing an FP-encoding gene or gene fragment into the genetic material of the cells with the aid of a linearized pEGFP-N1, pECFP-N1, pEBFP-N1 and/or pEYFP-N1 vector containing a human cytomegalovirus (CMV) promoter by electroporation or activated dendrimer transfection; and (b) selecting stably transfected cells on the basis of the growth-inhibiting action of an antibiotic.
