A method for handing over a mobile node (MN) from an old cell to a new cell in a multi-bearer-type network, or MBN. The MBN comprises at least one uplink bearer network (GSM, GPRS, UMTS) and at least one downlink bearer network (DxB) comprising several cells and channels. The method comprises: sending (HO8) measurement results of the mobile node s serving cell and neighbouring cells to a service support node set, or SSN; using (HO10), in the SSN, said measurement results and resource availability data (RR12) for forming a routing table (ACAL) and using the routing table for updating the mobile node s mobility binding information; sending (HO22) to the mobile node said updated mobility binding information and parameters for accessing a new cell/channel combination;sending (HO32) to the correspondent node (CN) said updated mobility binding information. The correspondent node (CN) is able to bypass the SSN node set when sending (HO36) subsequent data packets to the mobile node (MN).
