A method of manufacturing a membrane/electrode composite of a type which includes a catalyst material on a first material which comprises a first conductive polymer includes a step of contacting the first material comprising the first conductive polymer with a polar protic solvent (e.g. sulphuric acid, a sulphonic acid, hydrofluoric acid or phosphoric acid) and causing catalyst material to deposit on the first material. The composite may be used in an electrochemical device for example a fuel cell. |
