Composition for treating viral diseases comprising a substance (I) that modifies the function of YB-1, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a composition (a) for diagnosing viral diseases containing antibodies (Ab) directed against either YB-1 or P32; and (2) a composition (b) for diagnostic assessment of the risk of gene therapy with viral vectors containing Ab. - ACTIVITY : Antiviral. No biological data is provided. - MECHANISM OF ACTION : Reducing the concentration or activity of YB-1, a Y-box protein that controls gene expression in various viruses and enables replication of adenoviruses that are normally replication defective.
