The invention relates to a method for producing a fork prong (1) having a horizontal load member(2) and an approximately vertical back member (4). The fork prong is completely forged from a pre-blank in one working step or is forged in two or several working steps in a swage (swage pair). The fork prong (1) has an approximately horizontal load member and an approximately vertical back member (4) which is connected thereto in a single piece by means of a bend (3). The load member has a horizontal trough-shaped longitudinal recess (6) on the lower side thereof and the back member has two hooks (9, 10) on the rear side (7) thereof in the lower area. A single wide hook (11) is formed thereon in the upper area. The bend area (3) is also reinforced.
