PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently controlling microorganisms by which excellent microbicidal activities and microorganism-growth-retardant activities, against both of bacteria and fungi inhabiting in a water system for industrial use, such as service water and process water for a pulp factory and a paper mill, cooling water for various industries, metal working fluid and aqueous emulsion can be exhibited. SOLUTION: This method for controlling the aquatic microorganisms is characterized in thatβ-bromo-β-nitrostyrene is used by combining it with 2- bromo-2-nitro-1,3-propanediol.
