PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide powder grain by which the addition of an alloy can be stably and uniformly performed into the whole molten metal surface in a mold in a continuous casting of a steel. SOLUTION: As for the powder grain for continuous casting, containing powdery alloy or powdery metal of an element for adding to the molten steel, the grain diameter of the contained powdery alloy or powdery metal is desirably >=10 micron and not larger than the powder grain diameter, and the powdery alloy or the powdery metal having a standard creation free energy in the oxide of the contained element which is larger than that of silicon or boron is contained in the powder grain.
