PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rice cooker having functions to keep the temperature of the contents within the inner pot of the rice cooker uniformly by causing temporary and violent convection of the same at the beginning of boiling, and at the same time to generate KANIA NAs (crab's holes), but preventing to cause the contents overflow by such temporary and viorent convection. SOLUTION: When the contents of the inner pot 2 have become nearly boiling, an electric power higher than any other processes is temporarily added to the main heating means 3 by means of the temporary calorie increasing means 9 during fixed periods of time. During the power being added, when ONEBA (sticky matter generated when rice cooking) is detected by ONEBA detecting means 5, the operation of the temporary calorie increasing means 9 is interrupted by shifting means 10 and the supply of the electric power is shifted to the lower power sufficient to maintain the boiling even before said fixed periods of time have not been lapsed. And when ONEBA is detected before the operation of the temporary calorie increasing means 9 begins, the operation of the same is prohibited by the temporary calorie increasing prohibiting means 11.
