PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a versatile method for producing an indolenine derivative in high yield under mild conditions. SOLUTION: This method for producing an indolenine derivative of formula (IV) comprises a reaction between a compound of formula (I) and a compound of formula (II) or (III) (X1 to X4 are each a group-N= or -C=; R1 is an alkyl; Y is H, an alkyl, alkenyl, or the like; (n) 2-4; R2 and R3 are each an alkyl, or the like; R4 is an alkyl or an aromatic group; and R5 and R6 are each an alkyl).
