PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an opthalmopathy inhibitor used for prevention or treatment of diseases caused by active oxygen or a free radical in ophthalmologic filed and having high safety. SOLUTION: This preventive agent for retinopathy contains a tea extract as an active component. The extracted component of tea significantly inhibits photodamage to the retina when performing electrophysiological measurement of a retinal function in an evolving system of retinal photodamage using an experimental animal. Since the damage caused by photoirradiation is affected with active oxygen or the free radical, the extracted component of tea can prevent active oxygen or free radical-caused diseases in the ophthalmologic field. |
