PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon fiber structure having improved oxidation resistance, generating little fine powder and exhibiting high metal-supporting characteristics, a method for the production of the structure and an oxidized fiber for the production method. SOLUTION: The objective carbon fiber structure having an oxidation resistance of >=620 deg.C, a fine power generation of <=18 mg/g and a metal supporting property of >=550 ppm is produced by forming an oxidized fiber structure from a polyacrylonitrile-based oxidized fiber having an ash content of <=0.1 wt.%, a zinc content of 100-500 ppm, a phosphorus content of 20-250 ppm, an iron content of 0.5-10 ppm and a calcium content of 5-60 ppm (in terms of weight) and carbonizing the oxidized fiber structure in an inert gas at >=1,700 deg.C. The specific gravity of the polyacrylonitrile-based oxidized fiber is preferably 1.33-1.45.
