PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the image quality or the recording speed from lowering extremely without increasing the capacity of power supply unnecessarily. SOLUTION: In the recorder comprising a plurality of full-line type recording heads having a recording element array corresponding to the width of a recording medium, maximum recording duty of the recording head is calculated when a specified volume of recording data, e.g. a page of recording data, is recorded upon receiving (S205), a decision is made whether the calculated value is larger than an allowable recording duty (S206), and if a decision is made that the maximum recording duty is larger than the allowable recording duty, pulse width of a pulse for driving each recording element is shortened (S208), thus reducing the load on the power supply for the recorder.
