PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gear grinding method that can properly correct an over- ball diameter(OBD) so that the OBD value shows no large variation after a grinding device is stopped and the grinding wheel is dressed up, without OBD measurement during machining. SOLUTION: This gear grinding method for grinding a gear workpiece while correcting OBD by varying the distance between the center of a grinding wheel and the center of the gear workpiece has a step of measuring the machining downtime from an end of machining to a start of machining for the gear workpiece, and a step of selecting, according to the machining downtime, one from a plurality of pre-stored correction patterns with different rates of change in the correction level along the number of machining operations on the gear workpiece, and correcting OBD according to the selected correction pattern.
