PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method where a copolymer having sulfonate-functional groups bonded to a perfluoropolymer chain is industrially easily produced. SOLUTION: In this method for producing a fluoropolymer having sulfonate- functional groups, 1-50 mol% MOSO2CFY(CF2)mO(CFXCF2O)nCF=CF2 (wherein M, X, Y, m, and n are each as specified in the description), 50-99 mol% tetrafluoroethylene, and 0-10 mol% monomer copolymerizable with the foregoing monomers are subjected to solution polymerization or suspension polymerization in a specific polymerization medium.
