PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controlling method and apparatus for stabilizing a vehicle, either to restrain over-steering when a brake is being actuated while the vehicle is turning at a limit cornering speed or to restrain drift when the brake is being actuated while the vehicle is turning. SOLUTION: In the method and apparatus for controlling the brake systems of vehicles 8, 9 and 10 each having an inner front wheel 1b and an outer front wheel 1a, a determination is made as to whether or not at least either a drifted state or an over-steered state exists and, if it exists, a predetermined brake pressure is applied to the outer front wheel 1b.
