PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a polyether polyester which is excellent in mechanical strength and molding stability, industrially-steadily and economically. SOLUTION: A high-molecular weight and/or highly-branched polyether polyester is prepared by (1) reacting a polyalkylene oxide having a number average molecular weight of 1,000-30,000 and a polyacid anhydrite in a solvent having a water content of not more than 2,000 ppm in the system of (2) increasing the molecular weight by a ring-opening reaction followed by polycondensation reaction at a reduce pressure in a solid-phase.
