PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound improved in physical properties (heat resistance, chemical resistance, resistance to plasma, resistance to corrosion, low refraction properties, low water absorbing properties, solubility in solvents, electrical insulating properties, flexibility, water and oil-repelling properties, or the like) and belonging to bisphenolfluorolkanes, to provide a method for producing the compound, capable of mass-producing the compound in a good yield, and to provide a method for producing an intermediate for the compound, capable of producing the intermediate in the same manner. SOLUTION: This new compound comprises a bis(3-flouo-4-hydroxy-5-nitrophenyl) fluoroalkane, such as 2,2-bis(3-fuoro-4-hydroxy-5-nitrophenyl)hexafluoropropane. The method for producing the compound comprises, for example, fluorinating 2,2-bis(4- hydroxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane with a fluorinating agent to obtain 2,2-bis(3-fluoro-4- hydroxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane, and further nitrating the fluorinated compound to form the 2,2 bit(3-fluoro-4-hydroxy-5-nitrophenyl)hexafluropropane. The method for producing the intermediate comprises, for example, fluorinating the 2,2-bis(4- hydroxyphenyl) hexaflouoropropane with the fluorinating agent, wherein an N,N'- difluoro-2,2-bipyridinium salt is used as the fluorinating agent.
