PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gray scale recorder in which recording dots of essentially required size and density can be obtained stably even if high gray scale dots and low gray scale dots are recorded continuously. SOLUTION: The gray scale recorder where recording is performed line by line at a constant period while varying the driving time of recording elements R0-R4 depending on the gray scale data of each pixel constituting a screen being recorded comprises a memory 101, a gray scale counter 104, a decision circuit 107, a selector 108, a gray scale comparator 3, and a drive means.
