PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effeciently produce tetramethylammonium hydroxide by electrolyzing a tetramethylammonium salt in an electrolytic cell provided with a cation- exchange membrane. SOLUTION: A tetrametylammonium salt solution thicker than a solution in an electrolytic cell is fed into an anodizing loop, and on the other hand, water is charged into a cathodizing loop at the same time and a part of each solution circulating in the anodizing loop and cathodizing loop, respectively is removed. Hence, the operation is continued in a steady state. |
