PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect governor rope abnormality easily. SOLUTION: This governor rope abnormality is equipped with a governor sheave 30 provided on an upper part of an elevator shaft 21 through which a car 25 lifting and lowering, a governor rope tension pulley 31 provided on a lower part of the elevator shaft 21, a governor rope 32 extended endlessly between the governor rope tension pulley 31 and the governor sheave 30 so that a part of the governor rope 32 is connected to the car 25, a falling member 40 engaged with the governor rope 32 to fall spontaneously from an upward part, and a detector 60 provided along the governor rope 32 at a downward part to receive the falling member 40. Thus, a governor rope abnormality can be detected easily by examining whether the falling member 40 can be received by the detector 60 or not.
