PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable gage truck improved so that an increase in the unsprung weight of the truck is inhibited through a reduction in the vertical dimension of an axle box beam, and so that a lock for gage-invariably fixing wheels in place can be surely released and then locked again. SOLUTION: A lock mechanism 60 for gage-invariably locking the wheels 36 has its lock released by a lock release rail 73 provided independently of a vehicle body supporting rail 70, and is locked again by a locking rail 74. Therefore, the lock mechanism 60 can be operated while the axle box beam 29 is supported by the vehicle body supporting rail 70 and an axle 24 is not loaded with the weight of a vehicle body. In this way, the lock for gage- invariably locking the wheels 36 in place can surely be released and then locked again.
