PURPOSE: A process for preparing antibacterial fiber by mixing fine particles of a rare earth compound radiating far infrared with a melted polymer for the manufacture of synthetic fiber is provided. Whereby, the obtained fiber improves heat-retaining property and has improved sterilizing and antibacterial property. CONSTITUTION: The titled antibacterial fiber is prepared by the process consisting of: solvent-extracting a high purity rare earth compound from bastnasite and monazite; classifying the rare earth compound into a specified size and maintaining a polymer in a melted state in a melting furnace; mixing 10% by weight or less of the classified rare earth compound and 90% by weight or more of the melted polymer in a mixer; and spinning the mixed polymer in an extruder.
