PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk recording and reproducing unit constituted in such a manner that signals are recorded to the disk by a leaser emitted from an optical pickup. SOLUTION: The signal read out of a RAM 11 for buffer in signal recording operation is recorded to the disk 1 and are then stored and held in the RAM 11 for buffer before the fresh signal is written in place of the signal recorded to the disk. When the recording operation of the signal to the disk 1 is interrupted, the signal is recorded continuously with the signals recorded at the disk 1 before the interruption in accordance with the final address of the normally recorded signals and the signals stored and held at the RAM 11 for buffer. The timing for starting the starting operation of a laser element in restarting of recording is set by the recording characteristic of the test signal to a trial writing region disposed at the disk 1.
