PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for forming an image capable of suitably correcting degradation in image quality due to characteristics on color reproduction for each kind of a film product by the processing of image data, and stably reproducing an image with high picture quality regardless of the kind of a film. SOLUTION: An image photographed on a photographic film is photoelectrically read, and the kind of the photographic film product is discriminated, and image processing under a processing condition set according to the image obtained by the photoelectric reading is operated to the image data of the image, and a color reproduction conversion parameter corresponding to the discriminated kind of the photographic film product is selected from among preliminarily generated multiple color reproduction conversion parameters, and the image-processed image data are color reproduction- converted by using the color reproduction conversion parameter so that picture data corresponding to the output can be obtained, and a visible image is reproduced by using the picture data.
