PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic photoreceptor having high performance and a long service life at a low cost by utilizing a new electron transferring material excellent in electron transferring ability, compatibility with a resin, chemical stability, etc. SOLUTION: The electrophotographic photoreceptor has a layer containing an N,N'-heterosubstituted aromatic tetracarboxylic acid diimide compound of the formula RN(CO)2X(CO)2NR' (where X is a tetravalent group having an optionally substituted aromatic cyclic structure, R and R' are mutually different hydrocarbon groups or heteroatom-containing hydrocarbon groups and these are groups independent of imido groups andπ-electron conjugation).
