PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image data encoding device, an image data encoding method, a recording medium and an image forming device capable of more improving the compression rate of image data than heretofore, thereby increasing the quantity of images which can be stored in a recording medium whose capacity is fixed. SOLUTION: Multi-level image data in which the pixel value of one image is expressed with multi-bits are fixed length-encoded by using a block truncation compression method or the like, and obtained BTC data 201 are divided into gradation characteristic data (LA and LD) and bit data constituted of the upper bits of quantized data and bit data constituted of the lower bits of the quantized data, and stored in buffer memories 104a-104c so as to be developed on a two-dimensional plane, and JBIG compression processing is individually operated. |
