PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform efficient retrieval is without burdening a user by improving operability when retrieving a KANJI or a phrase. SOLUTION: In the electronic device provided with a KANJI retrieving function, a menu having the components of KANJI prepared for KANJI retrieval as selection items is hierarchically displayed (steps A11 and A12). With the component selected out of this menu as a retrieval condition, a table is retrieved (steps A13-A17) and when a KANJI matched to the retrieval condition is registered in the table (step A18), that KANJI is displayed as retrieved result (steps A20-A25). Thus, in comparison with an input system using a keyboard such as conventional KANJI retrieval, the retrieval condition can be more easily inputted and the desired KANJI can be speedily provided.
