PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem such that a voltage to be applied to a plasma display panel becomes higher in an initialization period in the driving of a plasma display panel having wide discharge gaps. SOLUTION: In the driving method of the panel, when the discharge space between a first electrode and a third electrode and the discharge space between a second electrode and the third electrode are defined respectively as a first counter discharge space and a second counter discharge space, in an initialization period, a driving method in which a voltage such that discharge making the second electrode to be a cathode side is started in the second counter discharge space is applied to the second electrode and a voltage whose polarity is positive with respect to the second electrode is applied to the first electrode is used. Since initialization discharge is generated with a relatively low voltage and, moreover, only cells are initialized properly on the surface of the stimulable phosphor layer on the third electrode by this driving method, a driving method with which crosstalk is hardly generated is obtained.
