PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adjusting method which can easily adjust a CRT image appearance position so that an image pattern is uniformly displayed on a CRT screen even if the image appearance gain to the CRT screen has variance. SOLUTION: A pattern PV for width adjustment is displayed on the CRT screen F and the appearance width and position of the pattern for width adjustment are so adjusted that the width B of the pattern P for width adjustment in a 1st direction is prescribed width and the intervals A and A' of the pattern PV for width adjustment and the edge of the CRT screen F in the 1st direction are equal to each other; and a pattern VC for centering is displayed in this state and a 1st-directional measurement position y1 of the pattern for centering is used as a 1st-directional position of a target.
