Gel delivery vehicles comprising 80-99.5% polar organic solvent and 0.5-20% thickening agent for anticellular proliferative agents

A composition for the regional/local delivery of chemotherapeutic (anti-proliferative) agents for treatment of cellular proliferative diseases such as cancer is described. Also described is the use of the composition in the manufacture of a medicament and a kit comprising the composition. The composition comprises at least one anti-proliferative agent in a substantially non-aqueous (less than 30% water) gel delivery vehicle that is capable of acting as a depot for the agent. The gel delivery vehicle is pharmaceutically acceptable and comprises at least one polar organic solvent (80-99.5% of vehicle) that provides a continuously liquid phase, and at least one thickening agent (0.5-20% of said vehicle). The vehicle must retain enough fluidity to be delivered via needle or catheter. The composition may also additionally comprise a vasoconstrictive agent.
