Provided is a multicomponent, coextruded monofilament dental floss (Figure 5) comprising a plurality of cores, each core comprising a first material, wherein the plurality of cores are completely embedded in and substantially surrounded by a single sheath comprising a second material and having a continuous surface. Preferably the sheath comprises an interior portion comprising the second material in which the cores are embedded, and the outer portion comprising a surface material, the outer portion providing the outer surface of the floss (see Figure 5e).
