PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that it takes time to retrieve recorded information since reading of an address becomes unstable and that the reproducing quality of the recorded information is deteriorated, when a focusing position optimal to a data part is set at the time of reproduction. SOLUTION: An address part or a data part has a focus means for focusing laser beams and this focusing means operates to set focus optimum value respectively independently to the cases of reproducing the address part and reproducing a data part in this recording and reproducing device for an optical recording medium. In the case of retrieving a position where the information is recorded, the device makes the focus means operate to set the focusing position where the address part can be read best.
