<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital picture signal multiplexing method capable of simplifying system configuration, reducing cost and improving reliability in the case of executing a hierarchical broadcast or a mottled composition broadcast. SOLUTION: An SDTV signal having eight bits per pixel is converted into a sample grade of an HDTV signal by using a frame buffer 3 and the SDTV signal of eight bits is converted into a data string of a 2-bit series by an 8-bit/2- bit conversion part 5. The HDTV signal and the SDTV signal are multiplexed with each other by substituting the SDTV signal obtained by converting the lower two bits of 10-bit data corresponding to one pixel of the HDTV signal into the data string of the 2-bit series for the HDTV signal through a delay part 4, a 2-bit frame generation part 7 and a mixing part 7.</p> |
